Ayurvedic Inspired Spring Foods, Juicing and Snack Ideas

Tulipani-Valentin-portrait

I’ve been on a juice kick lately. Not a bad thing I suppose, as Spring is a good time to balance Kapha energy. (Spring is Kapha season). When our Kapha is out of sync, it shows up as weight gain, allergies, sluggishness, and water retention. God knows, my allergies have been kicking up a storm!

A good way to reduce Kapha is to fill your diet with the greens of the season, spices, and warm herbal teas.

For veggies, reach for: arugula, asparagus, beets, bok choy, broccoli, brussel sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, chili peppers,  dandelion greens, endive, garlic, green beans, spinach, jicama, onions, kale, parsley and watercress

On the fruity side, think: lemons, apples, pears, pomegranate, prunes, raisins

Snack on Seeds: chia, flax, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds. My latest healthy indulgence, ahem, late night snack

Ayurvedic Chia Seeds

Chia Seeds

Hydrate with: aloe vera juice, bancha tea, cinnamon tea, dandelion tea, hibiscus tea, jasmine tea, peppermint tea, yerba mate.

Spice things up with: Ginger, Cumin, Coriander, Black Pepper, Sesame Seeds.

Here’s a Kapha balancing Ayurvedic Juice recipe I’ve been trying out this week:

Ayurvedic Kapha Balancing Kale Juice

  • Add water (filtered) to a desired amount to create a consistency that is appropriate for you
