I’ve been on a juice kick lately. Not a bad thing I suppose, as Spring is a good time to balance Kapha energy. (Spring is Kapha season). When our Kapha is out of sync, it shows up as weight gain, allergies, sluggishness, and water retention. God knows, my allergies have been kicking up a storm!
A good way to reduce Kapha is to fill your diet with the greens of the season, spices, and warm herbal teas.
For veggies, reach for: arugula, asparagus, beets, bok choy, broccoli, brussel sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, chili peppers, daikon radish, dandelion greens, endive, garlic, green beans, spinach, jicama, onions, kale, parsley, sprouts, watercress.
On the fruity side, think: lemons, apples, pears, persimmon, pomegranate, prunes, raisins.
Snack on Seeds: chia, flax, popcorn, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds. My latest healthy indulgence, ahem, late night snack
Hydrate with: aloe vera juice, spiced hot apple cider (add a stick of cinnamon), apple juice, bancha tea, cinnamon tea, dandelion tea, hibiscus tea, jasmine tea, peppermint tea, yerba mate.
Spice things up with: Ginger, Cumin, Cilantro, Black Pepper, Sesame Seeds.
Here’s a Kapha balancing Ayurvedic Juice recipe I’ve been trying out this week:
¼ cup Kale, (organic if possible)
½ teaspoon Sunflower Seeds – These seeds are tridoshic (good for each dosha)
1 to 2 tablespoons freshly ground flax seeds- This is one of the BEST detoxifiers of the Liver. Helps remove bad estrogens, along with other toxins.
½ Ripe Apple
Squeeze juice of ½ Lemon
¼ piece of Ginger
A dash of cinnamon
Add water (filtered) to a desired amount to create a consistency that is appropriate for you
