Ayurvedic Therapies

The ayurvedic approach is rising in popularity because it is comprehensive and gentle. Rather than looking for instant cures through prescripition pharmaceuticals, Ayurveda seeks to correct the source of the problem. For those who can commit themselves to the process, Ayurveda offers effective, cumulative health benefits.Believe me, I’m just as skeptical as the next guy, but after suffering with severe ulcers for the past few years and finding no relief from over the counter options, I decided to give Ayurveda a try.All I can say is, “Why did I wait so long?”

Ayurveda depends a lot on herbs, roots and other natural ingredients. It’s not uncommon for an Ayurvedic formula to contain over twenty or more specific herbs. The combination of primary herbs, balancing herbs and supporting herbs expedite the healing process. There are several ayurvedic therapies that are very beneficial.

They include:

This traditional therapy is a way of detoxification. Panchkarma is a good way of cleansing and servicing your body. The therapy is specially advantageous as it helps in preventing disease which occurs due to the accumulation of doshas or toxins.

Pizhichil is a treatment that involves the application of warm herbal oils to the body. The treatment is quite beneficial for Rheumatic diseases like Arthiritis, Paralysis, Nervous Weakness and Nervous disorders overall. It is one of the special massages for rejuvenating the entire body. The prescribed oil is first applied to the head. Then the herbal oils are applied to the rest ofthe body.

Mind you, it’s not your typical deep tissue massage. It requires the recipient to lie on a droni (a wooden bed specially designed for the purpose). Then pieces of linen that have been dipped in warm medicated oil are squeezed over on to the patient’s body while massaging the body simultaneously. The massage is very light and the movements are slow.Apart from being a great way to pamper yourself, it also serves to protect you from illnesses by building a strong immunity. It is especially good for relieving the pain associated with: rheumatic diseases, elevated blood pressure, pain in the joints, as well as diabetes.

This is a process in which the whole body is made to perspire by the application of certain medical puddings externally in the form of boluses tied up in a muslin bag. These puddings are then applied by two to four masseurs for about an hour to an hour and half per day for a period of 14 days. This treatment is considered to be an immune-enhancing rejuvenation therapy and is made use of during the convalescence period of injury and trauma, muscular wasting, arthritis, general weakness, paralysis, cholesterol and certain kinds of skin diseases.

In this treatment, highly concentrated medicated oil is poured as an even stream onto the forehead continuously to have an effect on the central nervous system. Sirodhra help “tune up” the brain, while also increasing your memory. The therapy is a good way of preventing and curing diseases such as: paralysis, senile dementia and other neurological ailments.
